MYOBRACE

ADVANTAGE

The Myobrace System is the only treatment method that addresses the real cause of crooked teeth.  The benefits are earlier treatment so that children can obtain natural development of the jaws and teeth.

The Myobrace System has two equally important components.

Myobrace Trainer

The Myobrace Trainer is a series of intra-oral appliances that are worn for one hour each day plus overnight while sleeping.  They promote nasal breathing, develop and align the jaw, straighten the teeth and optimize facial development.

Myobrace Activities

Myobrace Activities are exercises that are performed twice daily in conjunction with wearing the Myobrace Trainer.  They are designed to strengthen and stretch the tongue, cheek, and lip muscles as well as correct mouth breathing.

Extra Info

Why do so many children today have crooked teeth?

In the 1930s, Dr. Weston Price, a dentist from USA, travelled around the world studing the diets of many under-developed races. He found that these people had fewer cavities, better developed jaws and straighter teeth. He also noted when their next generation was introduced to the "Modern Diet", they developed narrower jaws, more crowded teeth and more cavities. He attributed the casue of tooth decay and orthodontic problems to the softer, less nutritional value of the "Modern Diet" and mouth breathing caused by allergies and bottle feeding.

What causes orthodontic problems?

Most children now have crooked teeth, and is evident from as early as 3-5 years of age. It was common belief historically that crowded teeth and poor facial development were due to hereditary factors - large teeth in small jaws. However, modern research now recognizes that this is rarely the case. Majority of the orhtodontic problems are caused by poor oral habits, such as mouth breathing, poor tongue, lips and cheek habits, known as incorrect myofunctional habits. For example, habits of the tongue, lips and cheeks play a crucial role in the postioning of the teeth. It only takes 1.7 grams of force to move a tooth. However, the lips, cheek and tongue can exert up 100 to 500 grams of force respectively. Correcting poor oral habits can help children achieve straighter teeth the natural way.
